I have just received my follow up appointment with Mr Dermot O'Riordan after spending 7 days in the Critical Care unit/ward of the West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds. The care and attention received on the ward throughout my stay was beyond all my expectations. After my procedure with Dermot on the Friday things improved over the next few days. I couldn't have wished for a better explanation of my problems and the resulting conclusion from a Consultant Surgeon than My Dermot O'Riordan. Excellent service from a great team of Doctors and Nurses.

I am disgusted by the restrictions imposed on the Health Service which means that limitations are put on care and cure for most people. Whilst I appreciate that there are those who will flout the NHS, there are also those who will tolerate a great deal of pain and discomfort before seeking help, only to find that the outcome they were hoping for is not available or that there are so many conditions to be met it is nigh on impossible for a satisfactory solution to be made. I understand that I need to make changes to enhance my chances SHOULD I qualify for the operation to repair my stomach BUT at the same time, having had this condition for so long and been on medication for approximately 20 years and watching the condition get progressively worse, I know it is not going to be fixed with continued medication and that I am going to continue to be in a great deal of discomfort and pain. I will make a return visit in 6 months and I can guarantee that the condition will still be there despite any weight loss, however much it is.
